Assistant Operations Manager

A well-established collection of family-run insurance businesses is seeking an Assistant Operations Manager to support the Operations Manager in the effective running of day-to-day business operations across multiple sites.

This role plays a key part in ensuring operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and the successful delivery of business objectives. The Assistant Operations Manager will work closely with managers and teams across the business to coordinate resources, improve processes, support staff development, and help maintain high standards of customer service and operational excellence.

Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, this position is ideal for someone with strong organisational skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and experience within a financial services environment.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Support & Resource Coordination

• Support the Operations Manager in overseeing daily business operations across multiple locations.
• Assist with resource planning and allocation to ensure business objectives are achieved efficiently.
• Monitor operational performance and identify areas for improvement.
• Work with managers to streamline processes, eliminate inefficiencies, and improve productivity.

Compliance & Regulatory Support

• Assist in ensuring the business remains compliant with all relevant regulatory and legislative requirements, including FCA regulations, GDPR, and Employment Law.
• Support the implementation and monitoring of compliance procedures and controls.
• Help maintain accurate records and documentation to demonstrate regulatory compliance.

Policy Development & Implementation

• Assist with the development, review, updating, and implementation of internal policies and procedures.
• Ensure policies align with regulatory requirements, company objectives, and industry best practice.
• Support managers in embedding policies consistently across the business.

Training & Development

• Coordinate and deliver training and development initiatives for managers and team members.
• Assist in identifying development needs and opportunities to enhance employee knowledge, skills, and performance.
• Monitor training completion and maintain relevant records.

Internal Audit & Operational Monitoring

• Support internal audit activities by gathering information, reviewing processes, and monitoring compliance.
• Assist with reporting audit findings and tracking corrective actions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives arising from audit outcomes.

Complaints Management (FOS & Non-FOS)

• Work alongside managers to support the effective handling and resolution of customer complaints.
• Ensure complaints are managed fairly, consistently, and in line with regulatory requirements and company standards.
• Monitor complaint trends and help identify opportunities for service improvement.

People Support & HR Coordination

• Support managers with day-to-day people matters, including absence, performance, conduct, wellbeing, and employee engagement.
• Assist with the consistent application of HR policies and procedures across the business.
• Support onboarding, training, development, and retention activities.
• Escalate more complex HR matters to the Operations Manager or appropriate senior manager.

Reporting & Communication

• Prepare operational reports and management information as required.
• Support communication between departments to ensure effective coordination and service delivery.
• Deputise for the Operations Manager when required.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have experience in a supervisory or management role within a retail or customer-facing financial services environment and be looking to further develop their operational leadership career.

They will be highly organised, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities while maintaining high operational standards.
