Teaching Assistant in Economics (ID:13901)

The School of Economics at the University of Leicester is seeking 5 enthusiastic and knowledgeable Teaching Assistants in Economics to contribute to its established teaching programmes. The postholders will support high-quality, research-led teaching and help enhance the School’s internal and external reputation. 

Working closely with the relevant programme directors and reporting to the Head of School, the successful candidates will support assigned modules through teaching, feedback and student support. 

Duties and responsibilities

You will deliver seminars and related teaching activities, maintain current knowledge of teaching and scholarship in economics, and assist an experienced member of staff in their capacity as module leader. You will provide face-to-face academic support, offer constructive feedback on student performance and provide appropriate pastoral support.

You will monitor students’ progress and, where applicable, contact students who do not attend classes or submit assignments. You will also attend relevant School and University meetings when required and undertake reasonable administrative duties assigned by the Head of School. Skills and experience

You will have up-to-date knowledge and subject expertise in economics-related topics, together with a master’s qualification, or equivalent experience, in a relevant discipline. You should be studying towards a PhD in Economics or a related field, be close to completion, or possess equivalent experience. A teaching qualification, or progress towards one such as PGCAP or HE Academy recognition, and experience of teaching undergraduate or postgraduate students would be desirable. 

You will be proficient in English and able to explain complex information clearly, encourage learning and provide effective teaching support in small and medium-sized groups and on a one-to-one basis. Strong oral communication, presentation, training and IT skills are essential, as is the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
