PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Join BBC Children in Need as Head of Planning and Delivery and play a key role in making sure the organisation delivers on its ambitions. Working closely with the COO and Executive Team, you'll help turn strategy into action by ensuring priorities are clear, realistic and well-coordinated across the charity. You'll provide oversight of major programmes and plans, helping teams stay focused, remove obstacles and deliver meaningful outcomes for children and young people across the UK.
WHY JOIN THE TEAM
You'll be joining a passionate and purpose-driven organisation committed to improving the lives of children and young people across the UK. This role offers the chance to work at the heart of the charity, bringing people together to achieve shared goals and making a visible difference to how the organisation operates. You'll have the opportunity to influence senior decision-making, shape organisational effectiveness and help create the conditions for long-term success.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
- Lead the planning and delivery function, ensuring organisational priorities are translated into clear, coordinated and achievable plans.
- Own and maintain the organisational delivery roadmap, aligning programmes, projects and resources to strategic objectives.
- Provide oversight of delivery performance, reporting progress, risks, dependencies and key decisions to the Executive Team.
- Drive prioritisation and organisational alignment, resolving competing demands and ensuring effective use of capacity and resources.
- Establish and embed robust programme, project and governance frameworks that improve accountability and delivery discipline.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives that remove barriers, streamline ways of working and increase organisational effectiveness.
- Coordinate business planning processes to align strategy, financial planning, workforce capacity and delivery commitments.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Proven experience of a PMO, portfolio, programme delivery or planning function
- Demonstrable success managing complex delivery across multiple teams, programmes and stakeholders.
- Understanding of reporting and performance tracking.
- Experience translating strategic priorities into coherent plans, delivery roadmaps and measurable outcomes.
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with confidence operating with senior leaders.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
- Experience working within the charity, public sector or a purpose-led organisation.
- A recognised programme or project management qualification (e.g. MSP, PRINCE2, Agile, PMP).
- Experience leading organisational transformation or business improvement initiatives.
- Knowledge of resource planning, organisational capacity management and workforce planning.
- Experience developing and leading high-performing project, programme or PMO teams.
If you can bring some of these skills and experience, along with transferable strengths, we’d love to hear from you and encourage you to apply.
