Job summary

Medical Laboratory Assistant
37.5 hrs per week (24/7 shift rota)

We are looking for a Medical Laboratory Assistant to work within our Infection Sciences Department. at the Royal Stoke University Hospital site. The post holder will be required to perform a range of routine and non-routine tasks within Pathology following Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including the Pathology Quality Policy, to provide clerical and technical support to Biomedical Scientists in order to ensure a high quality service in all areas of the relevant Pathology Discipline.

Main duties of the job
The post will be based in Infection Sciences ( Bacteriology) at Royal Stoke University Hospital.

Personal qualities

• Personal Qualities Essential criteria Maximum score 4 Prepared to work flexibly including participating in weekend and other out of hours rotas as necessary. Professional personal presentation and manner.
• Communicate effectively and accurately with all levels of staff

Qualifications

• GCSE grades A-C in Maths, English and a Science subject.

Desirable

• Awareness of Health & Safety matters
• Understanding the importance of confidentiality and data quality

Technical skills

• IT proficient
• Data entry experience
• Work under pressure prioritise workload and work to deadlines
• Manual dexterity
• Ability to concentrate for prolonged periods
• Ability to read and follow procedures and work in a methodical manner
