Royal Surrey Cancer Centre is based at the Royal Surrey County Hospital Guildford and cares for patients with cancer from the Surrey and Sussex area. We are recruiting for an upcoming vacancy on our inpatient haematology and oncology ward. If you are looking for a career in an acute and diverse area come and join our team. Onslow ward cares for both oncology and haematology patents receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiotherapy, symptom management and palliative care. If you have level 1 registration with the NMC, have experience at Band 5 level in an acute setting preferably within the NHS and would like to develop your knowledge and skills in cancer care we would like to hear from you. A cancer or haematology nursing qualification is desirable however, we can offer and encourage our staff to undertake further study. To be responsible for patient assessment, planning of care, implementing and supervising safe and compassionate care, and evaluating the effectiveness of care. - To organise and participate in the care of patients undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy and any other treatment modality related to the care of the cancer patient
- To undergo a period of training and supervision to become competent at venepuncture, cannulation and administration of cytotoxic agents, if not already competent in these areas
- To manage and maintain both central and peripheral lines, according to the guidelines
- To act as a resource for all staff, patients and carers in all aspects of chemotherapy care and administration
- To provide telephone advice, with the support of more senior staff, to patients, carers and other health care professionals
- To manage the admission and discharge of patients. Organising follow up or review in clinic
- To be familiar with and participate in, procedures carried out in HDR suite
- Respect the patient or client as an individual
- Obtain consent before you give any treatment or care
