The Role

As the Head of Department for Sociology, you will:

• Lead and manage the Sociology department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
• Develop and implement an engaging and challenging curriculum that inspires students and meets their diverse needs.
• Monitor and evaluate the performance of the department, driving continuous improvement.
• Provide professional development opportunities for departmental staff.
• Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, promoting the school's values and ethos.
• Collaborate with other heads of departments and senior leadership to contribute to the overall success of the school.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the planning, preparation, and delivery of high-quality Sociology lessons.
• Lead and mentor a team of Sociology teachers, offering guidance and support.
• Track and analyse student progress, implementing strategies to address areas of improvement.
• Coordinate departmental meetings, setting agendas, and ensuring effective communication.
• Manage departmental resources, including budgeting and procurement.
• Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies to support student learning and well-being.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will:

• Hold a degree in Sociology or a related field, with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• Have significant teaching experience, preferably with leadership responsibilities.
• Demonstrate a proven track record of improving student outcomes.
• Possess excellent organisational and communication skills.
• Be committed to continuing professional development and staying abreast of educational best practices.
• Exhibit strong leadership qualities, with the ability to motivate and inspire both staff and students.
• Be enthusiastic about fostering a love for Sociology and promoting critical thinking skills.
