Pastoral Manager - Kensington
Are you a compassionate pastoral specialist looking to support pupil wellbeing in a thriving Kensington primary school?
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an empathetic, organized, and proactive Pastoral Manager to join a highly supportive primary school in the heart of the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea.
Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, SENCo, and Designated Safeguarding Lead, you will play a central role in nurturing the social, emotional, and mental health needs of pupils across Early Years, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2.
About the School
Warm & Inclusive Ethos: A community-focused primary school committed to fostering a safe, happy, and encouraging environment where every child can thrive.
Proactive Wellbeing Focus: Strong emphasis on mental health, nurture groups, and positive behaviour management across all year groups.
Supportive Team: Collaborative working relationship between pastoral staff, class teachers, teaching assistants, and external specialists.
Prime Location: Centrally located in Kensington with excellent access via District, Circle, and Central London Underground lines and local bus routes.
About the Role
As Pastoral Manager, you will lead on pastoral interventions, attendance tracking, and day-to-day pupil welfare to remove barriers to learning and promote positive behaviour.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver 1:1 and small-group nurture interventions (e.g., emotional regulation, social skills, self-esteem, bereavement support).
Manage day-to-day pastoral concerns, responding calmly and effectively to pupil anxiety or behavioral challenges.
Monitor pupil attendance and punctuality, conducting home visits and working with families to improve engagement.
Act as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), maintaining meticulous CPOMS records and attending multi-agency meetings when required.
Build strong, trusting relationships with parents and carers to provide guidance and early help support.
What the School Offers
Inner London Allowance: Competitive salary package reflecting pastoral expertise and school responsibilities.
Professional Growth: Access to specialist CPD, including ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) training, trauma-informed practice, and DSL certification.
Generous Term-Time Schedule: Balance work and home life with a term-time-only structure aligned with primary school holidays.
Fulfilling Environment: A delightful cohort of children and a friendly, dedicated staff room community.
Candidate Requirements
Experience: Proven experience in a pastoral, child welfare, HLTA, or learning mentor role within a primary school or early years setting.
Specialist Knowledge: Sound understanding of primary-age child development, positive behaviour management, and safeguarding procedures ( KCSIE ).
Skills: High emotional intelligence, active listening skills, resilience, and the ability to maintain composure during challenging situations.
Qualifications: Relevant degree, NVQ Level 3/4 in Childcare/Youth Work, or ELSA qualification is highly desirable.
Compliance: Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service (or willingness to process one).
