About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced Machinist (Manual Lathe) to join our the manufacturing team in Glasgow.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled machinist who takes pride in producing high-quality precision components while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and workmanship.

Working as part of a busy production environment, you’ll be responsible for setting up and operating manual lathe machinery, carrying out inspections, maintaining quality standards and supporting the wider manufacturing team to ensure customer requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual lathe machines in line with approved manufacturing procedures.
• Read and interpret job tickets, engineering drawings and route cards to ensure correct machining operations are carried out.
• Verify materials, tooling and documentation before commencing work.
• Carry out machine set-up and ensure first-off inspections are completed before production begins.
• Monitor machining operations to ensure components meet drawing specifications and quality requirements.
• Inspect machined components, including thread gauging and removal of burrs and sharp edges.
• Identify and segregate non-conforming parts, reporting issues to management and carrying out rework where appropriate.
• Return tooling and programme documentation to designated storage locations after each job.
• Process unused materials in line with company procedures.
• Clean, protect and package finished components ready for the next stage of production.
• Carry out deburring using hand, bench or machine tools where required.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised work area.
• Complete weekly Metal Working Fluid (MWF) testing and accurately record results.
• Support other manufacturing operations when required.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

• Previous experience as a Manual Lathe Operator/Setter.
• Higher Grade education or equivalent.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Strong understanding of machining processes and quality inspection techniques.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Flexible approach with the ability to prioritise workload effectively.
• Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

Desirable

• HNC in Engineering or equivalent.
• Recognised engineering apprenticeship.
• Previous experience operating manual machining equipment in a precision engineering or manufacturing environment.
