About us
Pickle is a talent partner for fast-growing businesses. We help ambitious founders and leadership teams hire exceptional people across operations, product, technology, customer success, commercial, finance, and executive leadership.
We specialise in identifying high-quality permanent and contractor talent that can make an immediate impact, supporting businesses through key growth stages with a thoughtful, consultative approach to hiring. Whether it's a critical leadership appointment or building out an entire function, we work as an extension of our clients' teams to find people who combine the right skills, mindset, and cultural fit.
We believe great hiring goes beyond matching CVs to job descriptions. It's about understanding how businesses operate, what success looks like, and connecting them with people who will help them grow for the long term.
About our client and the role
Location: Remote first
Contract: Employed, Full-time hours
The company
A profitable, growing UK consumer technology business operating in a high-trust financial category. The company runs a portfolio of consumer products with significant transaction volume across the UK and North America, and is building toward a next-generation platform that converts occasional, moment-driven users into habitual year-round customers. The business funds its own growth from a strong balance sheet rather than external burn, and is entering its most ambitious product phase.
This search is being run confidentially ahead of an internal transition. The company, category and full context will be disclosed at first interview.
The role
This is a product-literate growth leadership role, not a channel management role. You will own user acquisition, activation and retention across a product portfolio, working directly with the Head of Product to design growth into the products rather than bolting it on afterwards.
Demand in this category concentrates into recurring peak moments. The growth mission is converting peak-moment users into habitual, year-round customers through product-led loops, referral and network mechanics, lifecycle orchestration, and a disciplined experimentation engine. You will not inherit a paid-media machine to optimise. You will build growth motions where trust, organic distribution and in-product mechanics do most of the work, with paid and organic channels deployed deliberately as supporting instruments.
You report to the CEO and sit on the senior leadership team.
What you will own
The experimentation engine. Rapid, lightweight, directional tests: roughly ten days end to end, a handful of clear signals per test, kill or continue conditions agreed upfront. You translate founder and leadership instinct into clean, testable bets, run them without amalgamating variables, and turn results into decisions.
Tentpole campaigns at full scale. When the peak moment arrives, you can stand up and run a major multi-channel campaign end to end: planning, creative, lifecycle, partnerships, paid support, live optimisation and post-campaign analysis. Big-moment execution and scrappy creative growth are both in your range, and you know which mode the situation calls for.
Product-led growth motions. In-product referral loops, share and gifting mechanics, activation nudges and network effects, designed with Product and shipped through the roadmap. You understand where self-reinforcing growth originates in any given case, growth-first or product-first, and you manage the handoff points deliberately: growth defines the loop and the target metric, product owns the surface, engineering ships behind feature flags you can operate yourself.
Acquisition across the mix. Organic, community, content, partnerships, PR and referral as the primary engine, with paid deployed surgically where the economics work. You can stimulate real acquisition through creative execution when there is no budget behind it, and you know when a small paid test answers a question faster than a month of organic effort.
Activation and retention. Lifecycle orchestration across email, SMS and push, behavioural segmentation, and the conversion of single-occasion users into multi-occasion customers measured on frequency and retention.
Launch. New products and surfaces go to market through you: positioning, early traction, channel fit, and the rapid testing that finds the message before scale.
What success looks like
- Increase in habitual and recurring usage across the product portfolio, ideally in 90-120 days
- A cadence of two to four clean growth and positioning tests per month, each producing a decision.
- New user acquisition grows through channels that strengthen with use rather than stopping when spend stops.
- The next platform release launches with a growth model designed in from day one.
- Leadership sees velocity: a visible pipeline of big bets, live tests and shipped conclusions.
Requirements
About You
You have taken products to fit before. Hands-on in finding product-market fit or scaling from partial fit, ideally having co-launched products through rapid testing rather than inheriting mature funnels. Closer to a venture builder than a media buyer.
You start from the product, not the channel. You read a funnel from inside the product outward. Fluent in activation, habit formation, loops, referral mechanics and network effects, and able to hold your own in product prioritisation without needing to run it.
You see the seam and act on it. You spot opportunities and pain points anywhere along the path from first touch to habitual use, whether they sit in growth's territory or product's, and you move on them proactively rather than waiting for them to be assigned. You know which problems a campaign solves, which a product change solves, and which need both.
You are analytically self-sufficient. You build your own tracking, define events, cut cohorts and read results personally. Product analytics, lifecycle tooling and experimentation platforms are things you operate, not things you commission.
You are a translation layer. C-suite generate instinct and direction at pace. You convert that energy into structured bets with clear hypotheses, rather than absorbing every idea as a to-do or resisting every idea as interference.
You decide and ship. Small team, high autonomy, no layers between you and the work. You commit, complete and ship before starting the next thing. Scrappy execution does not unsettle you; slow perfection does.
You lead through clarity. You will manage a small team including a content function, set a visible cadence, and give people clean priorities in an environment with more ideas than hands.
Toolkit
Mixpanel or Amplitude, Customer.io or Braze, PostHog or equivalent experimentation and feature-flag tooling, Metabase or similar BI, GA4, basic SQL, and enough technical fluency to specify tracking plans and work directly with engineers.
Particularly exciting if you have
- Taken a consumer product from a standing start to its first 100k users, or from partial fit to a step change in growth, and can walk us through exactly which levers did it.
- Built a referral, gifting or invite mechanic that became a top-three acquisition channel, with the loop maths to prove it.
- Run a peak-season campaign at seven-figure revenue scale and then built the machinery that kept those users engaged the rest of the year.
- Shipped a growth feature through a product and engineering team yourself, spec to feature flag to readout, without a growth engineer of your own.
- Turned a founder's half-formed instinct into a test that killed the idea in ten days, and they thanked you for it.
- Grown something where you could not buy your way to the number: no meaningful paid budget, audience trust on the line, creative execution doing the heavy lifting.
Benefits
