Data Protection Specialist

£44k - £65.9k per annum
Temporary

Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations and you'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in the office – Glasgow, Perth, or Aberdeen.

Salary: £44,000 - £65,900 + Performance-Related Bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Working Pattern: Fixed Term Contract| Full Time | Flexible First options available.

This is a Fixed Term Contract of 12 months.

The role

The Risk & Assurance team helps SSEN Transmission manage risk, maintain compliance, and provide accurate information to stakeholders.

As a 12-month Fixed Term Contract Data Protection Specialist, you'll be the subject matter expert for GDPR and data protection across the business, ensuring personal data is managed responsibly and in line with regulatory requirements. You'll lead Data Protection Screenings and Impact Assessments, work closely with our Legal team, and support the delivery of Environmental Information Regulations requests.

You'll also contribute to assurance activities across the business, helping ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and stakeholder obligations through effective risk-based reviews and monitoring.

You will

  • Lead on GDPR and information security activity across SSEN Transmission, including incident management, data sharing, subject access requests, privacy by design, and records processing.
  • Manage and respond to Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) requests, ensuring accurate, timely and compliant disclosure of information.
  • Provide expert advice and support on Data Protection Screenings and Data Protection Impact Assessments, helping enable digital and IT initiatives.
  • Deliver risk-based assurance reviews, assessing compliance with regulatory and licence obligations, and producing clear reports on findings and actions.
  • Support the interpretation and communication of regulatory obligations and licence conditions, helping the business understand and meet its responsibilities.

You have

  • Strong knowledge of GDPR, including Data Subject Rights requests, Data Protection Impact Assessments, and the management of potential data breaches.
  • Experience managing Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) requests and delivering accurate, compliant responses.
  • Proven experience implementing data protection policies and procedures, including delivering training and raising awareness.
  • Experience conducting risk-based assurance reviews and communicating findings through clear, evidence-based reporting.
  • A professional qualification in data protection, legal practice, risk, assurance or a related discipline, or significant relevant industry experience gained in a similar assurance or compliance role.
