About the Role
At Belmont Primary School, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to succeed, no matter the challenges they have faced. We're looking for a caring, resilient and enthusiastic Primary Pupil Support Worker / Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team and make a lasting difference in the lives of children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This is far more than a classroom support role. You'll be a trusted adult, a positive role model and an encouraging presence, helping pupils build confidence, develop independence and achieve success both in and beyond the classroom.
Working alongside teachers and our wider multidisciplinary team, you'll create a safe, nurturing and engaging environment where every child feels valued, supported and inspired to reach their full potential. Every breakthrough, no matter how small, is celebrated, and every day brings the opportunity to make a genuine impact.
What you'll be doing
Support pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups across a range of curriculum areas.
Help deliver engaging learning activities that meet individual needs and encourage participation.
Assist with the implementation of personalised learning programmes, behaviour strategies and intervention plans.
Promote pupils' emotional wellbeing, confidence, independence and positive behaviour.
Build strong, trusting relationships that help pupils feel safe, supported and ready to learn.
Prepare learning resources and classroom materials to support high-quality teaching.
Supervise and support pupils during educational visits, enrichment activities and throughout the school day.
Occasionally assist with transporting pupils when required, including educational visits or agreed journeys.
Monitor and record pupil progress, achievements and wellbeing, contributing to individual support plans.
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, pastoral colleagues and families to achieve the very best outcomes for every child.
Safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils, ensuring their safety and wellbeing at all times.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who:
Holds GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent).
Is passionate about supporting children with SEMH needs and helping them achieve their full potential.
Is calm, patient, caring and resilient, even in challenging situations.
Builds positive, trusting relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.
Can motivate, encourage and inspire children to succeed.
Is proactive, adaptable and able to use their own initiative.
Enjoys working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team.
Experience working with primary-aged children or children with additional needs is desirable but not essential.
Holds a full UK Driving Licence.
