Buyer, Burton on Trent

Location: Burton upon Trent

Salary: £38,000 – £40,000 per annum

Hours: 37.5 hours per week | Permanent | Full Time

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Buyer to join a well-established manufacturing business based in Burton upon Trent.

Reporting to the Operations Director, this role will focus heavily on sourcing, supplier management, commercial negotiations and delivering cost-saving initiatives across the supply chain.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring material availability whilst driving improved supplier performance and value for the business.

Key Responsibilities:

• Source and select suppliers, manufacturers and wholesalers to meet business requirements.
• Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, contract terms and exclusivity agreements to maximise value and ROI.
• Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships, monitoring performance and quality standards.
• Identify and implement cost reduction and supplier consolidation opportunities.
• Manage purchase orders and maintain accurate information within the MRP system.
• Monitor inventory levels and ensure materials are available to support operational requirements.
• Analyse sales trends and forecasting data to support purchasing decisions.
• Investigate and resolve supplier, delivery, billing and quality discrepancies.
• Work closely with Production, Planning, Logistics, Commercial, Marketing and Warehouse teams to support business projects and objectives.

Requirements:

• Previous experience within a Buyer, Purchasing or Procurement role.
• Demonstrable sourcing and supplier negotiation experience.
• Proven track record of delivering cost savings and commercial improvements.
• Experience managing a varied supplier base.
• Good working knowledge of MRP systems, ideally JDE.
• Strong Microsoft Office and Excel skills.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Strong organisation, administration and time management skills.
• Ability to prioritise workloads and work independently.

Desirable:

• Experience within a manufacturing environment, preferably FMCG.
• CIPS qualification or equivalent.
• Knowledge of contract negotiation and supplier consolidation projects.
• Ability to read and understand technical drawings.
