Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Assist the kitchen team with the preparation and cooking of dishes to a high standard
Prepare fresh ingredients including vegetables, meat, fish and other produce
Follow recipes, portion sizes and presentation standards
Support the chefs during busy restaurant service, weddings, functions and events
Learn and follow food hygiene, health and safety and allergen procedures
Keep kitchen areas, equipment and workstations clean, tidy and organised
Assist with stock rotation, storage and checking deliveries
Develop knowledge of seasonal and locally sourced ingredients
Work as part of the wider kitchen team and communicate effectively with colleagues
Learn to use professional kitchen equipment safely and correctly
Take part in regular training and development as part of the Commis Chef Apprenticeship

Training schedule

The successful candidate will be assigned a dedicated work based trainer who will provide support and guidance throughout the course. This Apprenticeship requires attendance for classroom based sessions once per week at the Grimsby Institute Campus, Nuns Corner, Grimsby, DN34 5AB.
