CYPMH Crisis Response Clinician

Job summary
Post Holder to respond within the hour to crisis referrals from acute hospital teams, community CAMHS teams and other stakeholders who refer into the Service.

To conduct biopsychosocial risk assessment and clinical formulation of the crisis to be able to make a care plan to reduce crisis.

Co-ordinate MDT meetings with CYPS professional network as part od discharge planning meetings for complex cases.

Identify frequent attenders and work collaboratively with community team to formulate a crisis plan to build resilience in CYP.

Work effectively within the team to support service development.

Support induction of new team members, students and graduate mental health workers

Utilise the support of clinical team to support in assessment and planning.

Be proactive in identify on developmental needs and request support from supervisor in learning opportunities

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be required to work on a shift pattern, to assess patients across the urgent care pathway, working autonomously and flexibly to manage the day-to-day assessments and/or advising on management of CYP under the age of 18 years and their families presenting to A&E Diversion Hubs based at Chase Farm, A&E and ward admissions to Barnet hospital or North Middlesex University Hospital with self-harm and acute mental health difficulties.

The post holder will be required to undertake a range of therapeutic tasks individually and jointly with members of the multi-disciplinary team. To develop & maintain specialist clinical skills and expertise in the assessment of CYP psychiatric emergencies and deliberate self-harm. To receive and assess referrals from A&E, paediatric/general wards, Community Teams, schools, and health colleagues across the NCL as well as self-referrals from CYP and their families. To offer advice on management of patients with mental health issues and non-organically based physical symptoms. Identifying regular attendees at Acute Hospitals with mental health problems and in liaison with Community CAMHS teams to make available current care plan as and when appropriate.

There is a need to use effective and efficient IT skills in the recording of clinical information and in communicating with colleagues from CAMHS and allied services.

In order to meet the needs of the Trust you may be required from time to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work. This may mean that you are required to work at any location that fall under Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey or Islington. The Trust reserves the right to require staff to work at such other places or locations as it considers reasonable and necessary on a temporary or permanent basis.

Job responsibilities
The clinician will complete a full biopsychosocial assessment and crisis plan working closely with the MDT to clincially formulate the young persons needs to understand triggers and perpetuating factors that can cause the crisis presentation.

The clinician will work in partnership with the young person and their carers along with all involved in the young persons professionals network to coordinate care to formulate safe discharge plans.

The clinician will utilise a range of therapeutic skills to engage a young person in accordance with their needs and keep the young person at the center of any decision making when signposting young person to additional service to support in treatment and recovery and build resilience and reduce risk behaviours

Qualifications/Registration
Essential
  • Qualification at degree level or equivalent and registration with registration with relevant professional body with a core profession (clinical/counselling psychology, psychotherapy, systemic family psychotherapy social work, nursing, occupational therapy - NMC/Relevant training on safeguarding and child protection.
Desirable
  • oTraining in one of the main therapeutic modalities. oCurrent experience of line management of Band 5 oCAMHS experience and evidence of leading a change initiative which improved patient care. oWorking within Mental Health Service as a Band 5 oExperience of working with CAMHS crisis acute services in the community
Skills and Abilities
Essential
  • oEvidence of well-developed clinical skills and knowledge in CAMHS. oWorking knowledge in at least one model of therapeutic work (e.g. Systemic, CBT, SFT, Psychodynamic).Proven qualities in sustaining the mental, emotional, and physical demands of specialised therapeutic work with disturbed and distressed adolescents and their families/care networks.Capacity to deal with working conditions that may occasionally involve verbal abuse and frequent exposure to highly emotive material such as child abuse and family breakdown.oAwareness of current national guidelines and policies in the field of CAMHS oKnowledge of legislation including the Mental Health Act 1983 in relation to children and adolescents including safeguarding children and young people, child protection procedures and policies.

  • experience of working within community CAMHS, previous working in acute and inpatient settings, experience of line management , training within a therapeutic modality
