Top recruitment sources and tools. Jooble guide

Top recruitment sources and tools. Jooble guide
Date: 6 October 2021

Just as any other professional field nowadays, recruiting is fast-developing. To stay sought-after specialists and keep abreast of current trends, recruiters have to improve their skills all the time. Jooble Recruitment Team Leader Alisa Lahovska shares her tips on how to be successful in the industry. Here is her guide to the best recruitment sources and tools.

Read books

There are tons of literature about recruitment that meet the various needs of the specialist. For example, you can plunge into materials about the search and assessment of the candidates. However, let’s not limit ourselves to recruitment as such. A good specialist should also be interested in mastering negotiation and team network skills, etc. Needless to say that different materials about remote and hybrid working models have become extremely popular over the last year.

Here are 7 must-read books Alisa recommends to every recruiter:

  • Who — The A method for hiring by Geoff Smart and Randy Street
  • Full Stack Recruiter: The Modern Recruiter’s Guide by Tegze Jan
  • The Holloway Guide to Technical Recruiting and Hiring by Osman (Ozzie) Osman
  • Just Listen: Discover the Secret to Getting Through to Absolutely Anyone by Mark Goulston M.D., Keith Ferrazzi
  • Rework by Jason Fried, David Heinemeier Hansson
  • Everything is Negotiable by Gavin Kennedy
  • Write and abbreviate by Maxim Ilyakhov, Lyudmila Sarycheva

If you’re also attracted by HR technologies, get acquainted with our list of the best books on this topic here.

Follow trends

Large global companies periodically publish analytical reports about the latest trends in recruitment. The frequency may vary but in general, you can get updated information every six months. It’s worth mentioning that recruitment sources may depend on the region, just as the style employers and employees communicate. That’s why you can’t always copy patterns that fit perfectly in other countries. However, general trends are predominantly the same everywhere.

Here are some sources worth monitoring:

Deloitte is a brand that brings together tens of thousands of highly qualified specialists who work in independent firms and provide services in the field of audit, financial consulting, risk management, taxation and related services. Besides that, they also publish recruiting analytics.

LinkedIn is a professional network with tons of materials for professionals in different fields. Among others, you also can find analytics about recruiting.

StackOverflow – allows you to study current data about employment trends.

Attend events

There is no secret that pandemic has dramatically changed our communication culture patterns. However, we still prefer meeting each other offline. Thanks to events we can listen to the announced speakers and also discuss the industry problems with colleagues. It is useful for networking and finding solutions to pressing issues. On the other hand, online conferences and discussion clubs enables to gather in one place dozens of specialists from all over the world. In any case, don’t underestimate the power of communicating with colleagues from the field. No matter the format, it always helps look at the challenges from a new angle.

Take courses and webinars

The popularity of online courses and webinars has skyrocketed since the pandemic outbreak. However, with the rapid development of technologies, the idea of life-long education has become a new normal. We all have tried to enlighten ourselves with courses and lectures when 2020 shook our routine. But how many of them did we manage to finish? Finding the right course and (what is also important!) accomplishing it isn’t the easiest task.

To choose the course that is the best fit for you, consider the following aspects:

  • ask colleagues about their impressions of the taken courses;
  • ask for a recommendation of effective courses in the Facebook communities or elsewhere your colleagues from the field discuss them;
  • carefully read the program of the course and consider how relevant discussed topics are going to be for you; keep in mind the balance between practice and theory;
  • get acquainted with the speakers’ profiles (or get to know authors of the course) to understand their approaches and experience;
  • look for free webinars of this speaker to assess whether his or her presentation style suits you.

When it comes to recruitment, the disruption between theory and practice can be quite dramatic. So, to make sure that the chosen recruitment sources are the perfect fit for you, pay attention to the experience the course authors can share with you.

Subscribe to experts on social media

Many well-known recruiters actively run their Facebook pages or blogs. You can find a lot of tips, cases, ideas, and best practices there. Here are a few pros in the sourcing industry that are worth following:
1. Iryna Shamaeva
2. Martin Lee
3. Hung Lee

The list is, of course, to be continued. However, you got the point. These people collect and actively share the best recruitment sources that help them along the professional way. You may disagree with their ideas and methods, but it’s always good to have a second opinion.

Bonus. Things to keep in mind

  • English. You will need it to take the most relevant and updated courses and read articles on foreign resources. Since companies have started hiring worldwide even more often than before, English became a must for any professional;
  • Communication and negotiation. After all, the recruiter constantly deals with people and negotiates with both candidates and hiring managers;
  • Emotional intelligence. It will help you better understand candidates, customers and, first of all, yourself;
  • How recruiting works in various fields. For example, an IT recruiter may not understand how recruiting works in pharmacology or in manufacturing, but this information, which at first glance seems irrelevant, may contain new ideas for better performance;
  • Time management. With dozens of interviews, calls, and communications on a daily basis, a recruiter must understand how to effectively organize their time.

Ms Lahovska says when she started her career path, her major tasks were strongly related to HR, candidate assessment, and other areas. Now, as a team leader, she is more interested in team management, process building and recruitment strategy. But she continues to read the best practices and trends in recruiting and attend events. ”Every day I read relevant social media channels, watch webinars several times a week, try to dedicate at least an hour every day to reading professional literature. The main thing for advanced training is consistency. “
