Registered Nurse Neonatal
Department: Registered Nurse Neonatal
Band 5, £32,073 - £39,043 per annum, pro rata
Hours: Part time, 34.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

Join our dedicated Neonatal Team at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and help provide outstanding care to babies and their families. As a Level 2 Neonatal Unit, we have a 16-patient bed capacity.

As a Band 5 Neonatal Nurse, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, family-centred care to infants requiring neonatal support across our unit. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will assess, plan, implement and evaluate care, while supporting parents through their neonatal journey in a compassionate and professional manner.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for an Adult or Paediatric Registered Nurse or a Registered Midwife with a passion for neonatal care and a commitment to delivering safe, effective and compassionate care. Previous neonatal experience is desirable but not essential, and we welcome applications from newly qualified nurses and experienced practitioners looking to develop their neonatal career.Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent communication skills, the ability to work effectively within a team and efficiently, in what can be a physically and psychologically challenging work environment, sound clinical judgement, a passion for continuous learning and professional development, with a commitment to complete the Neonatal QIS Programme within 3 years from taking the role.

Job responsibilities
NHS Staff Survey: Nursing and Midwifery feel strongly that their team works well together to achieve their objectives, managing great team work continuously, 63.7% support this.

To provide the highest standard of evidenced based nursing care for infants, children, young people and their families in line with local and nationally agreed standards and guidelines.

To be responsible for the unsupervised assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of plans of care, ensuring high standards of evidence-based care.

Work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team to formulate evidence-based programmes of care based on an assessment and evaluation of patient needs.

Qualifications and knowledge
Essential
  • Childrens Nursing Degree (Acute Childrens Wards)
  • Childrens Nursing, Adult Nursing or Midwifery Degree (Neonatal Services)
  • Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) PIN
  • Evidence of career development
  • Understanding of use of clinical audit in a clinical setting
  • Practice supervisor and/or practice assessor
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures for the safeguarding of children
  • Knowledge of national guidelines for Childrens and Neonatal Services
Desirable
  • Paediatric Immediate Life Support (Acute Childrens Wards) or Newborn Life Support (Neonatal Unit)
  • Knowledge of current professional issues in nursing
  • Knowledge of infection control
