Salary Scale: £92 - £115 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education are currently recruiting for a resilient, compassionate, and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist secondary educational setting in York.

This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant who understands the diverse needs of learners with SEND and is confident supporting students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) profiles. You will work closely with teaching and support staff to provide consistent, personalised assistance that enables young people to access learning and make meaningful progress.

About the Role:

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored one-to-one and small-group support to secondary-aged students with a range of additional needs. You will help learners overcome barriers to learning, develop independence, and manage the demands of the school environment through structured, patient, and consistent support.

Core Responsibilities of the SEND Teaching Assistant:

* Provide personalised one-to-one and small-group support for students with SEND and ASC profiles
* Assist students in accessing classroom activities and adapting to different learning situations
* Use appropriate strategies to support communication, engagement, emotional regulation, and independence
* Build positive, trusting relationships while maintaining consistent boundaries and expectations
* Work collaboratively with teachers and wider support staff to implement individual learning and support strategies
* Promote a safe, inclusive, and structured environment where students feel supported and able to succeed

As the Ideal SEND Teaching Assistant, You Should Have:

* Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, particularly those with ASC profiles
* A good understanding of autism and the different ways it can affect communication, behaviour, sensory processing, and learning
* A resilient, patient, and adaptable approach to supporting learners with complex or diverse needs
* Strong communication and relationship-building skills
* Ability to remain calm and consistent when responding to challenging situations
* A genuine passion for helping young people with additional needs develop confidence and independence

To Work with GSL Education, You Must:

* Have the right to work in the UK
* Provide an up-to-date CV with relevant reference information covering the last 2 years
* Have recent experience working with children or young people, preferably within an SEND setting
* Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one
