Early Career Teacher of Geography - Secondary School,...
A well-led and inclusive 11–18 secondary school in Nuneaton is seeking a motivated Early Career Teacher of Geography to join its established Humanities faculty. This is an excellent opportunity for an ECT to develop their teaching practice in a school with strong mentoring, clear routines and a genuine commitment to professional development.
The school has a positive local reputation for behaviour, pastoral support and staff retention. Geography is a valued subject within the curriculum, with strong uptake at GCSE and a clear progression pathway built into Key Stage 3.
The Opportunity
You will teach Geography across Key Stages 3 and 4 , supported by a well-structured curriculum and shared departmental resources. The Geography curriculum is knowledge-rich and enquiry-based, balancing physical and human geography while developing students’ analytical and evaluative skills.
Lessons focus on:
Developing geographical thinking and enquiry
Building confidence in map skills, data interpretation and extended writing
Exploring real-world issues such as climate change, urbanisation and sustainability
Linking local case studies with global perspectives
As an ECT, you will benefit from clear schemes of work and assessments, allowing you to focus on classroom delivery and behaviour management as you grow in confidence.
Support for Early Career Teachers
The school offers a strong ECT induction programme, including:
A reduced teaching timetable during your induction period
A dedicated subject mentor within the Geography department
Weekly coaching and development meetings
Opportunities to observe experienced practitioners
Access to subject-specific CPD and ECT networks
Support is practical, structured and tailored to your development needs.
The School Environment
This is a Good-rated secondary school with a calm, purposeful learning environment. Students are polite and engaged, and behaviour is supported consistently across the school. Leadership is visible and approachable, with a clear focus on staff wellbeing and professional trust.
The Humanities department works closely together, sharing planning, moderation and enrichment opportunities.
