Pro-rata salary from £17,673 up to £20,068 depending on experience and qualifications (reducing to £11,782 to £13,378 from January 2027)

Support Staff Pay Spine Point 16 to Point 20 (FTE £33,232 to £37,734 per annum)

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the College’s well established Guidance team in the role of Progress and Support Tutor. Working closely with other colleagues, Progress and Support Tutors provide appropriate guidance and support for students, monitoring their progress in order to support their personal and academic development and to assist them in fulfilling their potential.

This fixed-term Progress and Support Tutor role is available to provide parental leave cover within the Guidance Team. The appointment will run from Monday 2 November 2026 to Tuesday 20 July 2027. The successful candidate will initially work three days per week until Friday 18 December 2026, reducing to a minimum of two days per week for the remainder of the academic year.

The role will include delivery of Future Ready sessions, Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) mentoring and an enrichment activity, working with a mix of Year 12 and Year 13 students. The initial allocation will reflect the three-day working pattern and will be adjusted appropriately when the role reduces to a minimum of two days per week.

This is an exciting opportunity to gain substantial experience in a pastoral role within a high performing sixth form college. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced colleagues across the Guidance Team and will play a key role in supporting students’ academic progress, wellbeing and onward progression.

While this is a fixed term appointment to provide paternity leave cover, subject to future organisational need there may be opportunities for further employment beyond the end of the contract.

This role will ideally suit somebody who has experience and an interest in the development of young people. Recent knowledge and experience of post-16 education and dealing successfully with parents, students and staff is essential. An understanding of the developmental, emotional, social and educational issues of young people is also a key requirement, together with an awareness of the range of needs of people from diverse ethnic, cultural and social backgrounds. All candidates will need up to date knowledge of the legislative and best practice requirements pertaining to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
