Job Advert
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.
The role:
As a Medical Secretary within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, you will play a vital role in supporting Consultants and clinical teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care. This is a dynamic and rewarding position where you will act as a key point of contact for patients, staff and external partners, helping to coordinate every stage of the patient journey. Working in one of the UK’s largest NHS Boards, you will be part of a supportive organisation that values compassion, dignity and teamwork.
The role offers the opportunity to use your organisational and communication skills in a fast-paced healthcare environment where no two days are the same. You will contribute directly to improving patient experience while developing your own professional skills within a respected public service.
All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.
Duration: Permanent
Location: Beatson West Of Scotland Cancer Care
Hours: Part Time (15 hours)

- Manage complex diaries, appointments and clinic schedules to ensure efficient use of clinical time
- Act as a main point of contact, handling telephone and face-to-face enquiries from patients, relatives and multidisciplinary teams
- Coordinate patient pathways, including appointments, admissions and waiting list management, in line with targets
- Liaise with departments to maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and clinical information
- Prioritise and organise workload independently, responding to urgent matters with initiative and sound judgement
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot can be great for planning and preparing your application, but your answers must be your own.
- Show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically.
- Use AI wisely: It’s fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar, but don’t let it write your answers.
- Why this matters: Applications that rely on AI-generated content may be withdrawn. By applying, you confirm your responses are based on your own knowledge and achievements.
Tip: Think of AI as a helper, not a substitute. We want to understand you, not an AI tool.
