1:1 SEND Support Assistant | Autism | Ferryhill Location: Ferryhill Job Type: Full Time, Term Time Only Start Date: September 2026 Pay: £92.63–£108 per day, dependent on experience Not every day will be easy. That's where you come in. Protocol Education are looking for a 1:1 SEND Support Assistant to join a specialist school in Ferryhill, supporting a pupil with Autism. You'll be working closely with one pupil throughout the school day, helping them manage routines, transitions, learning and emotional regulation. At times, the pupil can become dysregulated and display challenging behaviour. This means we're looking for someone who can stay calm under pressure, think on their feet and provide consistent support. Your day could involve: Providing 1:1 classroom supportHelping the pupil manage sensory needsSupporting transitions and changes in routineUsing calming and de-escalation strategiesEncouraging communication and independenceSupporting learning and engagementFollowing individual behaviour and support plansBuilding a trusting relationship with the pupilWorking closely with teachers and SEND professionals You could be a great fit if you have: A Psychology degreeExperience supporting someone with AutismSEND or education experienceCare or residential experienceYouth work or mentoring experienceBehaviour support experience You don't necessarily need to have worked in a school before.
