Attendance & Welfare Officer - Progressive Secondary...

Are you a dedicated, empathetic pastoral professional ready to drive student attendance, reduce persistent absence, and strengthen home-school communication across a progressive secondary school? This could be an exceptional opportunity to shape student engagement and safety.

  • Progressive, inclusive 11 to 18 state secondary school in Manchester

  • Attendance & Welfare Officer leading attendance tracking and safeguarding liaison

  • Full-time role (Term-Time Only + 1 Week) | September start

Our client is seeking an ambitious and resilient Attendance & Welfare Officer to manage daily register monitoring and persistent absence interventions across the school. Working out of a heavily resourced pastoral hub, you will act as a crucial link between pupils, parents, heads of year, and external education welfare officers (EWOs).

Key responsibilities include carrying out morning registration checks, conducting daily home contacts for unexplained absences, organizing targeted early intervention meetings with parents, and maintaining meticulous attendance data on school databases (such as SIMS or Arbor). You will also conduct home visits where necessary, design bespoke attendance reward frameworks, and prepare legally compliant documentation for statutory local authority panels regarding persistent truanting.

School Information

This inclusive secondary school in Manchester is celebrated for its warm community atmosphere, dedicated pastoral support structure, and commitment to student wellbeing. Senior leadership actively supports attendance staff with visible classroom management, clear escalation policies, and structured continuous professional development in trauma-informed care and family mediation.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Previous experience working within school attendance, pastoral support, youth work, or family liaison roles

  • Complete confidence utilizing school management software (Arbor, SIMS, or Bromcom) to run queries and analyze trends

  • Outstanding communication skills, with a professional, empathetic, yet firm approach when handling challenging conversations

  • Strong understanding of local authority attendance protocols, statutory safeguarding frameworks, and child protection guidelines

Application

To be considered for this Attendance & Welfare Officer role in Manchester starting in September, please forward your CV today.
