About the role To work alongside the regional adoption agency, Adopt Coast to Coast staff groups and management team in the two spokes of Together for Children and Durham. The peer mentor support worker will be an experienced adoptive parent and feel able to deliver peer mentoring to up to 10 referred adoptive families for a period of 12 months.
The peer mentor support worker will deliver the Enhancing Adoptive Parenting programme with the support of the allocated supervisor in the adoption team to the adoptive parents on the scheme. The peer mentor support worker will also plan and facilitate family sessions for the children (adopted and birth) of the adoptive parents alongside their adoptive parents at approved and risk assessed venues across the geographical footprint of the Regional Adoption Agency. The peer mentor support worker will provide advice and guidance whilst acting as a positive role model for people who require their support. The peer mentor support worker will in addition provide 1-1 support to any of the referred families through coaching and where necessary and appropriate attending meetings with them as a ‘friend’, for example meetings with education.
The peer mentoring coordinator will also participate in service development within Adopt Coast to Coast through co-production work, positively influencing and representing the voice of adopters.
The post requires the post holder to organise and manage their workload independently, under supervision of the allocated supervisor. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check from the Disclosure and Barring Service. “Due to recent changes in UKVI rules, this role does not meet the criteria for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship under the updated eligibility requirements effective 22 July 2025.” – add to advert if applicable We want you to apply if you:

- Are an experienced adoptive parent
- Have some understanding of early trauma and the impact of this on children as they grow and mature.
- Have some basic understanding the principles of therapeutic parenting.
