Head of Music - Ambitious Secondary School in High Wycombe
An ambitious and academically strong secondary school in High Wycombe is seeking an accomplished and inspirational Head of Music to lead its thriving Performing Arts department. The school is open to an April 2026 or September 2026 start for the right candidate. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape and develop Music provision within a structured and high-performing environment.
Music is a respected and well-supported subject, with strong GCSE uptake and a growing KS5 cohort. The department integrates performance, composition, music theory, and music technology into a broad and rigorous curriculum, supported by a vibrant programme of concerts and productions.
The Role
Leading and managing Music provision across KS3, KS4, and KS5
Driving high standards of teaching, learning, and performance outcomes
Developing a coherent and ambitious Music curriculum
Overseeing concerts, ensembles, productions, and extracurricular provision
Line managing Music staff and supporting professional development
Monitoring pupil attainment and implementing targeted intervention strategies
Managing departmental resources, budgets, and performance facilities
Contributing to whole-school leadership and strategic planning
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
A degree in Music or a closely related discipline
Experience teaching Music at secondary level, including examination groups
Prior leadership experience within a department
A strong track record of securing high academic and performance outcomes
Excellent organisational, communication, and rehearsal leadership skills
The ability to inspire musical excellence and pupil confidence

MPS/UPS + TLR or Leadership Scale (dependent on experience)
