Research Project Manager (Research Fellow)

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Contribute to strategic planning, identifying interdependencies across projects/functions, potential impacts on wider organisation, and resource requirements.
  • Develop and maintain strong communications links with key stakeholders, including project management groups, conveying complex issues and negotiating desired outcomes.
  • Work flexibly as a member of the R&D management team to ensure the delivery of a high-quality service, leading and managing R&D policy and service developments as required, as dictated by local and national governance frameworks.
  • Operate effectively in a political, demanding, and sensitive environment and proactively engage with NHS staff, clinicians and internal and external contractors.
  • Deputise for the Chief Investigator/Head of R&D as required.
  • Participate in in local/regional and national implementation forums to ensure dissemination of best practice.
  • Supervise, mentor and line manage junior staff in equivalent disciplines as required.

Essential criteria

  • Educated to MSc or equivalent level, or experience of working at a senior level in research projects in an NHS Trust.

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of continuing professional development. • Educated to PhD or equivalent level, or experience of working at a senior level in research projects in an NHS Trust.

Essential criteria

  • Proven successful delivery of projects. • Experience of project management in an NHS R&D environment. • Experience of identifying, avoiding and managing risks and putting in place appropriate contingencies within this environment. • Experience of developing and maintaining partnerships with other organisations, within and outside the NHS. • Experience of policy or service development and leading and implementation change.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of identifying and interpreting National policy. • Experience of NHS procurement processes.

Essential criteria

  • Confident user of Microsoft Office, and project management software. • Knowledge of financial processes.
