Stakeholder and Community Engagement Manager – Scotland

Reporting to the Head of Stakeholder Engagement (Scotland), this role delivers stakeholder engagement activity across a defined patch within Scotland, building trusted local relationships and supporting the region's broader engagement strategy on the ground.

Here's How You Will Contribute…

Deliver stakeholder engagement plans within your patch, in line with the regional strategy set by the Head of Stakeholder Engagement.
Build and maintain day-to-day relationships with Scottish local authorities, elected representatives (councillors, MSPs), community organisations and resilience partners in your area.
Act as the first point of contact for local stakeholder queries and issues, escalating reputational or community risks to the Head of Stakeholder Engagement where needed.
Represent SGN at local forums, community councils, and events, ensuring the company's activities and investment programmes are understood and well received.
Gather and feed back local stakeholder insight — including on Scotland-specific priorities such as fuel poverty, rurality and island connectivity, and the Scottish Government's net zero and heat in buildings agenda — to inform regional strategy and business decisions.
Support delivery of operational and investment programmes by ensuring affected communities and stakeholders are informed and engaged at the right time.
Work collaboratively with colleagues across the business, including those engaging with COSLA and Scottish Government officials, to coordinate engagement activity and avoid duplicated or conflicting outreach.

What You Will Need

Experience in stakeholder engagement, community relations, public affairs or a related field, ideally within utilities, energy, infrastructure or another complex operating environment.
Ability to build trusted relationships with a range of local stakeholders and represent the organisation credibly and professionally.
Working knowledge of the Scottish local government, community and regulatory landscape, including devolved competencies relevant to energy and net zero.
Sound judgement in handling sensitive or contested local issues, knowing when to resolve directly and when to escalate.
Strong communication skills, able to explain technical or complex information clearly to non-specialist audiences.
Good organisational skills, able to manage a varied workload of relationships, events and issues across a defined geographic area, including travel across dispersed and rural communities.
Based in Scotland, with the flexibility to travel regularly across the region.
