Why 30% of Job Seekers Can’t Find the Right Role — and How We’re Fixing It

Why 30% of Job Seekers Can’t Find the Right Role — and How We’re Fixing It
Date: 3 June 2025

At Jooble, we’re not just thinking about the future of job search — we’re building it. Recently, our Country Manager for the DACH region, Kateryna Cherniaeva, took the stage at RecBuzz to share how structured data is changing how people find jobs. Her message was that the job search shouldn’t be a guessing game.

What’s Wrong with Traditional Job Search

Imagine typing “marketing manager in Berlin” into a job board. But here’s the catch: the candidate will only see jobs with those exact words.

What about listings for “growth strategist” or “brand lead”? Those might be perfect matches, but the candidate will probably miss them.

Jooble’s survey in the United Kingdom shows that three out of ten job seekers struggle to find fitting roles, while companies struggle to find qualified candidates.

This disconnect creates a lose-lose situation: candidates don’t find the right opportunities, and employers miss out on potential talent.

Smarter Search Starts with Smarter Structure

We knew something had to change. So at Jooble, we rebuilt the foundation of our search system around four key ideas:

  • Relevance: Show what truly matters, not just what matches keywords.
  • Categorization: Give a better structure to the numerous job listings.
  • Understanding: Grasp what both users and employers mean.
  • Smart parsing: Turn messy text into precise, structured data.

The Hidden Jobs Problem

It’s interesting that about 20% of job posts in places like Germany and France don’t mention a profession in the title or description.

That’s a big deal when you consider that 40-50% of people search by profession.

Why does this happen? Often, recruiters post vague titles like “We’re hiring!” or “Temporary role” — not because they’re lazy, but because that’s how internal systems work. So we asked ourselves how to fix this without asking recruiters to change their habits?

Enter: Automatic Profession Detection

Jooble decided to build a system that does the heavy lifting for them.

Jooble’s AI now scans job listings, even vague ones, and tags them with our database’s three most relevant job titles — no edits from recruiters are required.

For example, one family posted a childcare job with no profession in the title. Our system looked at the description and instantly tagged it with “babysitter,” “childminder,” and “childcare worker.” Just like that, the job became searchable for the right people.

The results speak for themselves:

  • Jobs with no clear profession suddenly appeared in 2 to 2.4 times more searches
  • Even general job posts got 1.5 times more visibility
  • Revenue from these “hidden” jobs increased by up to 2.5 times.

We didn’t just improve the search. We helped real people connect faster, easier, and smarter.

Of course, AI isn’t perfect. Sometimes, it suggests something too broad or a bit off. That’s why we keep people in the loop — real human reviewers to check and adjust where needed, because context matters.

What’s Next?

We’re not stopping here. Next, we’re adding more structure to our system: job perks, tax details, richer descriptions — all the information job seekers need to make better choices.

Our goal is to help employers be seen and help people find jobs they want. This isn’t just about fixing one platform. It’s about building a job market that is transparent, relevant, and efficient for everyone because the job search should feel exciting and not exhausting.
