Health Care Support Worker - Ophthalmology Outpatients and Inpatient Ward 1c

Part-time

The Role

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic HCSW based in the Ophthalmology outpatient department of the Gartnavel General Hospital Glasgow. The successful candidate will be expected to work as part of the Ophthalmology team, supporting the registered nurses and be involved in all care needs within the outpatient setting. You will be required to work within a busy clinical area working collaboratively as part of the multidisciplinary team. Experience within a hospital or community ophthalmology setting is essential. You are required to be flexible, forward thinking and able to work effectively within changing and dynamic environment. You should have excellent communication with an eagerness to learn.   • Monday to Saturday shifts
  • Part-time, permanent
  • Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part-time hours

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, compassionate care to patients attending Ophthalmology outpatient departments and inpatient services
  • Carry out a range of clinical assessments including visual acuity testing, visual fields, OCT scans and tonometry following training and local protocols
  • Assist patients with personal care and support their comfort, dignity and wellbeing throughout their care journey
  • Communicate effectively with patients, carers and members of the multidisciplinary team to support excellent patient outcomes
  • Accurately record patient information and update electronic and written patient records in line with local procedures
  • Maintain clinical environments by monitoring stock levels, reporting faults and supporting health and safety standards
  • Escalate concerns and report changes in patients' physical or psychological condition to registered healthcare professionals promptly

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • A caring and compassionate approach, ideally supported by experience in a healthcare or caring environment
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team while also managing your own workload
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with patients and colleagues
  • Ability to follow procedures and protocols and contribute positively to service delivery
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks within a busy clinical environment
  • Good keyboard and Microsoft Office skills with confidence using electronic systems
  • Flexibility to work across Ophthalmology sites and a willingness to undertake all required induction, training and competency development programmes
