Clinical Lead

Job Introduction

Turning Point is a leading social enterprise supporting people with complex needs across substance use, mental health, learning disabilities and public health. We are seeking an accomplished Clinical Lead to provide expert clinical leadership across our integrated substance use service in the City of London and Hackney. This is a high-impact opportunity for a senior addiction professional to influence and lead upon local clinical strategy, strengthen governance and quality, and shape evidence-based practice for people with co-occurring substance use, physical health, mental health and wider social needs.

Serving two diverse London boroughs, the service combines a successful hyper-local neighbourhood model working alongside key partners and stakeholders to deliver needs led services to the people we support. You will lead within an ambitious, multidisciplinary environment, working alongside operational leaders, clinicians and local partners to assure safe, responsive and person-centred pathways for a population with high levels of complexity and health inequality.

Passionate about people, you’ll enjoy the opportunity and support to enhance your own life and career too, as you gain the experience and training you need to progress in your career within a social enterprise.

So, if you’re ambitious and ready for a fresh challenge, progress your career with Turning Point as a sector leader.

Role Responsibility

As Clinical Lead, you will play a pivotal role in delivering safe, effective and evidence‑based care to people accessing our service. Working with some of our most complex service users, you will combine hands‑on clinical expertise with strong leadership to ensure consistently high standards of care and positive outcomes.

You will be central to the clinical direction of the service, providing leadership across clinical governance, supervision and appraisal, workforce development, and service innovation. We are proud to be a responsive, forward‑thinking service, proactively addressing emerging trends such as ketamine use among adults and young people, and the growing risk of synthetic opioids (e.g. nitazenes).

With extensive experience in the substance use field, you will be a key contributor to the ongoing delivery and development of high‑quality clinical interventions. You will work collaboratively with the service management team, clinicians, local health partners and wider stakeholders to design and deliver holistic, person‑centred care that supports service users throughout their recovery journey.

This role offers genuine professional scope: to set clinical standards, embed robust audit and learning, strengthen pathways for opioid substitution treatment and co-occurring conditions, and lead responses to emerging risks including ketamine use and synthetic opioids. You will have the authority to translate evidence into practice, develop the clinical workforce and build trusted relationships with NHS partners, commissioners and community organisations. For a credible, thoughtful and ambitious addictions leader, it is an opportunity to leave a clear clinical legacy and help establish the service as a recognised centre of excellence.

Turning Point is committed to the ongoing professional development of all our staff, and we offer regular structured supervision, a well-developed monthly CPD program and full support with appraisals and revalidations. Through joining Turning Point, you will receive a warm welcome, peer support, extensive training, regular supervision and the chance to thrive in a lively and aspirational organisation.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have appropriate experience in addiction medicine at a clinical leadership level:
  • Be a ‘Specialist’ doctor in addiction: either a Consultant Addiction Psychiatrist or a specialist doctor from another background such as General Practice, who has the appropriate experience & qualifications (as per the RCPsych / RCGP Competency Framework)
  • Have current GMC Registration
  • Have experience of providing safe, effective and evidence-based assessment, care and interventions for substance users (ideally across both adults and young people)
  • Have the legal right to work in the UK
