The Senior Buyer qualifies vendors, evaluates bids, and negotiates prices and terms for purchased goods and services. Purchases materials, supplies and services at the most favorable terms for the organization. Being a Senior Buyer typically requires a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent. Tracks purchases, monitors vendor quality, and maintains a current database of vendor information. In addition, Senior Buyer typically reports to an executive or a manager. Being a Senior Buyer contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Working as a Senior Buyer typically requires 4 to 7 years of related experience.

Our company is looking for a Senior Buyer to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Auditing of Suppliers / Vendors;
  • Maintain optimal supply chain performance from suppliers;
  • Manage suppliers – improve relationships and drive them to hit KPI performance metrics;
  • As the Senior Buyer, you will deputise for the Procurement Manager and support strategic buying decisions;
  • Management of both direct and indirect categories for manufacturing and contract services;
  • Supply market intelligence, benchmarking and competitor strategy analysis;
  • Support the MD to ensure adequate supply of raw material at the best possible conditions;
  • Undertake supplier performance reviews and B2B meetings in line with company process and procedure;
  • Coordinate the projects that have been assigned to you in close collaboration with the different stakeholders;
  • Build strong working relationships with client, the supply chain and all stake holders;
  • Assisting line manager in developing and providing a comprehensive procurement service that is effective and efficient for all end-users;
  • The P&L of their category;
  • Take full ownership, validate and implement the purchasing strategies for the raw materials and packaging portfolio;
  • Data analysis to monitor suppliers;
  • Track and report market trends, risks and opportunities, linked to your portfolio.

Requirements:

  • Circa 3 years’ experience within an inventory management or Procurement function preferably within a fast-paced distribution environment;
  • Previous experience of ERP systems such as Oracle, JDA, SAP or bespoke company tailored inventory planning systems;
  • Conflict resolution ability;
  • Experience of purchasing proprietary products on a high volume scale with large, global suppliers;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Extensive Purchasing in a Manufacturing/Engineering Environment;
  • Advanced Negotiation Techniques;
  • Working within a Global and Matrix Organisation;
  • Degree qualified / MCIPS accredited (or working towards) is preferrable;
  • High standards of personal ethics and integrity demanded;
  • Technical and Commercial acumen;
  • Autonomous, effective individually and as part of a multi-discipline team;
  • Experience, knowledge and skills in project and change management; with demonstrated success of delivering benefits and savings within procurement;
  • Must be mobile and prepared to travel quite frequently;
  • Proficient in the use of a computerised purchasing system. Experience of using SmartPlant Materials is Preferred.
