Product Developer Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Product Developer to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Driving the delivery of products along Critical Path to hit Development Calendar;
- Interface with Asia team counterparts to support development process and prototype approval, empowering ‘close to source’ responsibilities;
- Ad Hoc projects researching particular innovations or sustainable materials and processes within our business or product offer;
- Creation of product specifications, testing, prototype assessments and sealed samples;
- Check returned stock and investigate technical failings to make recommendations on future production;
- Maintain sample and pattern library and keep all documents referenced and up to date;
- Prepare manufacturing instructions, samples and patterns for approved designs;
- Compile and analyse industry and market research, through a variety of methods;
- Provide information required to calculate product costs;
- Check counter-samples from external suppliers to ensure accuracy and quality standards;
- Hosting gameplay sessions to gather feedback and aid future product development;
- Liaising and negotiating with Far East suppliers, ensuring costs and production methods are correct based off customer briefs;
- Provide input into new products following research and category plans;
- Present new or improved prototypes to team at monthly review;
- Creating and collecting product content for an exciting array of commercial products in the board games and party goods categories.
Requirements:
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
- Strong Retail numerical acumen;
- Technical or Design qualifications / education preferred;
- Experience of design and prototype production;
- Knowledge of vertical retailing would be advantageous;
- Use of design software such as Adobe Illustrator to prepare sample instructions;
- Ability to travel;
- Preparation of instructions;
- Solid work experience in a technical and development capacity;
- Confident use of Microsoft Outlook and Office applications;
- Understanding of product costing;
- Computer literate –basic office suite. Experience working in a PLM system is preferred.
