Charge Nurse

Charge Nurse plans, directs, and evaluates the overall nursing care and functions in a particular nursing unit or during an assigned shift. Coordinates the activities of the unit and directs, organizes, and assigns work to the nursing staff. Being a Charge Nurse assesses, monitors, and educates the nursing staff on patient care. Institutes emergency procedures as necessary. Additionally, Charge Nurse requires a bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited school. Requires a valid state RN license. Typically reports to a supervisor and/or manager. The Charge Nurse supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. Thorough knowledge of functional area under supervision. To be a Charge Nurse typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.

Our company is looking for a Charge Nurse to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a clear and concise handover report is given to all relevant staff members at the end of each shift;
  • Ensure that Care Plans are completed and maintained and in accordance with NMC guidelines & company policy;
  • Carry out regular checks on residents at intervals determined by the Home Manager;
  • Administer prescribed medicines and document the same in accordance with the company’s procedure and NMC guidelines;
  • Take charge of the night shift;
  • Adhere to all appropriate NMC guidelines / regulations;
  • To ensure the correct ordering, storage and administration of drugs in accordance with individual requirements, medical and pharmaceutical agencies.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrate previous experience working in a UK nursing home setting;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills and confident leading shifts and coordinating care;
  • NMC Registered Adult General Nurse/RGN, Mental Health Nurse/RMN or Learning Disabilities Nurse/RNLD;
  • Able to show a can-do attitude always;
  • Experience in a supervisory role;
  • At least 3 years post registration experience;
  • A commitment to patient-centred care and to values-based and evidence-based practice;
  • The ability to assess and teach junior staff;
  • A proven ability to co-ordinate care, prioritise tasks and manage Health & Safety issues;
  • The drive to learn and develop.
