Design Engineer Job Description Template

Our company is looking for a Design Engineer to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Creating 3D CAD models using Inventor/Solidworks from inception through to production;
  • Liaise with clients and other design disciplines;
  • To provide technical support to the production department as and when required;
  • H&S policy and procedures (made available through Induction/X Drive/H&S Department);
  • Use creative practical thinking to solve R&D problems;
  • Create Product Manuals;
  • Control of Bill of Materials (BoM), CAD Models and Engineering Drawings;
  • Attend to the preparation and issue of drawings, layouts, specifications, illustrations, bills of material etc. by computer or other means;
  • Following the company’s processes and procedures;
  • Provide engineering support and technical guidance as and when required;
  • Generating and/or revising specifications;
  • All aspects of the technical development of products from concept to production;
  • To ensure all CAD files, detailed drawings and supporting documentation is completed to a high standard;
  • Generation of Bill of Materials (BOMs);
  • Installation support.

Requirements:

  • Use initiative to develop new and beneficial working methods;
  • Ideally be proficient with use of Solidworks and ideally PDM;
  • Experience working on a variety of materials and bespoke designs;
  • 5 Year Traceable work history (Gatwick Airport security requirement);
  • Ability to read and create engineering drawings with realistic tolerances;
  • Ability to discuss, articulately all elements of the design process with colleagues from different parts of the business, e.g. Factory and Sales;
  • Communication skills;
  • Be familiar with project planning terminology, logic and updates;
  • Experience of 3D modelling and 2D drafting;
  • Experienced user of Solidworks;
  • Highly enthusiastic;
  • AUTOCAD experience (solid works/or similar);
  • Full, clean driving licence with some travel required;
  • Some previous experience of supervising within an engineering department, although this is not essential;
  • Familiarity with pharmaceutical or biotech industries would be an advantage.
