SEN Teacher Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a SEN Teacher to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Provide a stimulating learning environment;
- Supporting students to build self-confidence and independence;
- Deliver engaging lessons to a small group of pupils;
- Liaising with parents and caregivers including at parents evenings;
- Adapting lessons to meet the needs of the pupils;
- Planning and Preparation of resources and lessons;
- Teaching to GCSE level;
- Liaising with parents and SLT;
- Liaise with parents and external agencies;
- Collating the completed work from the lesson and leaving a handover for the returning teacher;
- Managing pupil behaviour in the classroom;
- Leading classroom sessions, often with the support of SEN Teaching Assistant(s);
- Create lesson plans based around a sensory curriculum adapted to the specific needs of each student;
- Confidently support learners using different techniques;
- Undertake assessments.
Requirements:
- Experience within Special Needs (desirable but not essential);
- Qualified Teacher (QTS, QTLS, PGCE, CertEd, SCITT);
- An Enhanced DBS (we can support with this);
- Experience working with children with SEN needs i.e ASD;
- Excellent communication skills, the ability to use initiative and works well under pressure;
- Confident in differentiating work in accordance to the students’ needs;
- Experience of working in a special school environment is desirable;
- Knowledge and experience of teaching vocational subjects would be advantageous;
- A relevant teaching qualification: minimum of a B.Ed. or Bachelor’s Degree;
- Interest in researching new initiatives and implementing them whilst evaluating current processes;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to lead as well as collaborate with leaders;
- Have previous experience working within a SEN environment or have always wanted to;
- Level 2 (GCSE) in Maths and English;
- Successful class room teaching experience;
- QTS or extensive teaching experience.
