Childcare Lawyer Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Childcare Lawyer to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Conducting advocacy for non-contested and contested cases;
- Managing a caseload of approximately 10 – 12 childcare cases;
- Attend meetings as required;
- Advocacy, including contested and non-contested hearings;
- Acting as a legal advisor to a wide range of clients in relation to their Children’s social care functions;
- Managing a busy caseload of childcare matters;
- To work with Senior Lawyers and Lawyers to ensure a consistent and holistic approach to the delivery of services;
- Prepare and process all legal documents, including pleadings and reports, relevant to the work of the Council;
- Present cases before courts and Tribunals where the post holder has a right of audience on all matters in relation to the work of the Council;
- Dealing with neglect and abuse cases;
- Dealing with care cases;
- Processing emergency protection orders;
- Attending PLO meetings.
Requirements:
- Good interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal);
- Good team player, support others and has a strong desire to achieve the overall team goal;
- Analytical and creative approach to problem solving and decision making;
- Positive and flexible approach to work and will undertake work outside of area of expertise during busy periods;
- Can handle a varied caseload and can perform effectively under pressure;
- Ability to build effective relationships with Council members, officers, external stakeholders and other legal team members;
- Can prioritise work and manage conflicting deadlines;
- Self reliant, can work effectively on own;
- Good advocacy skills in both courts and tribunals;
- Good IT skills and ability to use electronic case management and time recording system;
- Taking a lead role in advising clients on the specialist aspects of Childcare law and practice;
- To make sure that all quality standards are always understood and adhered to;
- You will be required to conduct your own advocacy, unless complex;
- Progressing your own caseload of files focussed on care proceedings and acting for parents/grandparents;
- To achieve any billing, time and fee earning targets set.
