Head of Mechanical Engineering Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Head of Mechanical Engineering to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of engineers to deliver new products with new materials incorporated;
- Work with partner businesses to develop relationships and new IP;
- Heading up projects that are taking products from concept to production;
- Work with suppliers to develop new part designs whilst working with other departments to bring on new suppliers;
- Work with the Director to assist the planning and developing of the Product road map;
- Lead the Mechanical Engineering Group and be a driver of engineering excellence and a mentor for younger engineers, in your teams and others;
- Lead cross departmental communication to deliver products and projects;
- Managing day to day activities that include budgets and BOM’s for example, whilst mentoring and developing the engineers in your remit.
Requirements:
- Hands on experience developing new part designs with suppliers;
- At least 10 years’ relevant industry experience;
- Highly experienced using FEA- able to perform linear and non- linear structural analysis;
- Capable of leading an engineering team;
- Experience using DFMEA’s to manage and reduce risk;
- Good understanding of manufacturing engineering and techniques;
- Understanding of tolerance analysis;
- Good understanding of metallic materials, their properties and use;
- Design;
- Experience with 3D CAD (Solidworks preferred);
- Engineering degree in a relevant discipline;
- Excellent engineering science fundamentals; stress, materials, product life and failure.
