Food Technologist

Use chemistry, microbiology, engineering, and other sciences to study the principles underlying the processing and deterioration of foods; analyze food content to determine levels of vitamins, fat, sugar, and protein; discover new food sources; research ways to make processed foods safe, palatable, and healthful; and apply food science knowledge to determine best ways to process, package, preserve, store, and distribute food.

Our company is looking for a Food Technologist to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Liaising with suppliers;
  • Assessment of raw ingredients and sourcing alternative suppliers;
  • Quality checking finished products;
  • Stock ordering, ensuring raw ingredients pass quality check before production;
  • Requesting all technical information for raw products;
  • Following instructions from concept to completion on bespoke requirements;
  • Prepare for and participate in quality system audits;
  • On-site at Key Clients – testing & evaluation of Freddy Hirsch food manufacturing equipment;
  • Involvement in the end-to-end manufacturing process of these products – ensuring top level output & product quality;
  • Compliance with BRC, & customer requirements, including technical/operating standards, policies and procedures;
  • Write, review and maintain supplier & product specifications;
  • Working on-site with key clients – independent butcheries, major retail chains & meat processing factories;
  • Implementation of QA/QC systems in order to increase production output;
  • Act as part of the internal auditing team carrying out Quality System Audits;
  • Provide technical support to ensure that the business meets food safety, legality and specific customer requirements.

Requirements:

  • HACCP Level 3 & BRC Auditing experience would be beneficial;
  • Degree educated in a Food Science or related discipline;
  • A real foodie with a passion for innovation, and a proven track record of working in quality/technical roles the food industry;
  • A high calibre individual, with an entrepreneurial flair and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
