Learning Mentor Job Description Template

Our company is looking for a Learning Mentor to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with school staff to support the development and implementation of PEPs for pupils;
  • Supporting and developing the achievement of pupils during and after (for an identified period of time) their placement in transition;
  • Keeping up-to-date with latest initiatives, research and practice through local and national training and networking;
  • Maintaining appropriate professional boundaries in all contacts and support of pupils and their carers;
  • Providing appropriate programmes of 1:1 or group support that enable pupils to make a successful transition into care and into their new school;
  • Keeping up-to-date records on the progress of pupils including observations and agreed targets;
  • Contributing to policies and practice which promote inclusion and engagement by pupils;
  • Undertaking weekly and then monthly visits to pupils when full time in their new school;
  • Working with key staff and carers to develop, agree and implement a transition plan for all pupils based on an assessment of their individual needs;
  • Undertaking visits to carers in their home, if required;
  • Meeting with the Senior Learning Mentor weekly to discuss progress of work;
  • Promoting students’ equality, diversity, rights and encouraging responsibilities;
  • Maintaining the health, safety, protection and wellbeing of pupils throughout their placement;
  • All mentors will be expected to attend any training organised during school holiday periods by prior arrangements;
  • Planning relevant and appropriate support to help remove identified barriers to learning that prevent pupils achieving their full potential.

Requirements:

  • Full enhanced DBS Check;
  • Level 2 Teaching Assistant Qualification;
  • 2 professional references;
  • determined to help raise standards;
  • You must be willing to attend a registration interview;
  • able to build and maintain positive relationships with pupils and their parents/carer;
  • passionate about children’s enjoyment of learning;
  • You must have legal right to work in the UK;
  • Your CV must cover the last 10 years of employment history where possible and all employment breaks must be explained;
  • Dedicated and hardworking.
